Baby Aubree's quilt

As soon as I found out that my friend Sharon was going to have a granddaughter I scoured the internet looking for the just the right quilt to make for the baby's room and I think I found it.  I absolutely adore this family tree panel that is part of the Children at Play line by Sarah Jane studios.  

Sharon has an embroidery machine so she embroidered all the family names onto the panel and then I took it from there.

I just added a couple of borders and then quilted it using a wide crosshatch pattern.  I'm so happy with the results and I hope baby Aubree will grow to love it too.

Wednesday WiP - Children at Play

I've been slowly but surely working on my bottled rainbows quilt top.  Last night I spent some time going through my scraps looking for fabric to match my berry and violet colors.  I love sorting through my scraps and petting all my fabric. It takes me way longer than necessary because I have to oooh and aaah over all the lovely fabric I forgot I have. ha!

I am finishing up a baby girl quilt using the gorgeous Children at Play fabric by Sarah Jane studios.  Oh how I love each and every fabric in that line, so girly girl and precious.  My original idea was to take the "parade" fabric and build a quilt on top of it.  I finished up the top section of the quilt last night and when I started looking at how it would turn out when I added the parade on the bottom I just didn't like it.  Here's the top section...

and here's the top section with the parade scene laid under it, obviously it's not ironed or attached yet.  I don't think I am going to add the parade, it just looks out of place there and the top is 40" x 40" so it's already a generous baby quilt size.

Now I'm back to the drawing board to whip up a new design that lets the parade scene be the star of the show.  Wish me luck!

100 Quilts for Kids - 2012

It's time again...

Katie from Swim, Bike, Quilt is hosting this charity quilt drive again this year.  This time the drive is going from July 1 through October 15.  It will be a great time to make a quilt or two, link to her site and donate to a kids organization.  See this post on her blog for more details.

Twin girls

I am so proud of these two quilts.  I just love the red & aqua color scheme.  I made these for my cousins twin girls that were born in late May.  I'm a little late getting them to her but I don't think she will mind because I'm pretty sure she's busy taking care of 2 little ones right now.

My sweet dog wanted to get in on the photo shoot.

I chose a precious dark pink polka dot for the backing and binding.

Here's a closeup of the quilting which is just straight line quilted 1/4" away from each seam. I did it all by myself!

This is the dog that stole my heart and made me a dog person...sweet Aggie Belle.

Guy Quilts

I finished two quilts last week, and I am proud to say I even quilted them all by myself.  They are both quilts for teenage boys.  I've never made a quilt for a teenager, much less a teenage boy so I was very sensitive about not making the quilt look girly or toddlerish.  

My Sunday School class is sponsoring a cottage full of boys at a children's home this year.  We are giving each boy a big birthday bash and he gets to choose what he wants to do.  The first party was last week and we had a laser tag party.  FUN!  The main gift is the party of course but I wanted to give each boy something to remember our class by and to let them know they are loved.

This quilt is for Robert.  I saw this quilt a while back on another blog and copied Leigh's great idea.  The simple stripes are just so perfect to me.  I'm calling this side the front.

Both boys were completely surprised to get a quilt and seemed to really love them.  I hope they will keep them forever!
